We wish you a happy birthday!
Remember to renew your vehicle registration and tag, or boat registration and decal before midnight on your birthday (or the expiration date on your auto or boat registration).
Generally, auto and boat registrations expire annually on the birthday of the first owner listed on the registration. This applies to passenger cars, recreational vehicles, light trucks under 7,999 lbs., small trailers, motorcycles and boats.
Exceptions: company owned vehicles which are renewed in June; some lease vehicles; and, truck-tractors, semi-trailers, trucks over 7,999 lbs., and 9 passenger automobiles for hire which must be renewed in December.
Vehicle registrations and tags may be renewed 90 days prior to their expiration.
January
• Property Tax 2% Early Payment Discount – In January, a 2% discount can be earned for early payment of real estate property taxes and/or tangible personal property taxes.
• Homestead Tax Deferral – January 31 is the deadline to file for Homestead Tax Deferral.
• Local Business Tax Receipt – January 1 through the end of February, any Local Business Tax receipt that was not renewed on or by the previous September 30th and remains delinquent, is subject to a late renewal penalty of 25% plus applicable collection costs and attorney fees.
February
• Property Tax 1% Early Payment Discount – In February, a 1% discount can be earned for early payment of real estate property taxes and/or tangible personal property taxes.
• Local Business Tax Receipt – Any Local Business Tax Receipt that was not renewed on or by the previous September 30th, and remains delinquent, is subject to a late renewal penalty of 25% plus applicable collection costs and attorney fees.
March
• Property Tax Installment Payment Plan – The fourth and final installment is due for those on the Property Tax Installment Payment Plan.
• New Homestead Exemptions – March 1 is the deadline to file new homestead exemptions with the Property Appraiser’s Office.• Property Taxes Due in Full – All real estate property taxes and tangible personal property taxes are due in full (with no discount) by March 31. Payments not paid or postmarked by March 31 are delinquent.
• Local Business Tax – Any Local Business Tax receipt that was not renewed on or by the previous September 30th and remains delinquent, is subject to a late renewal penalty of 25% plus applicable collection costs and attorney fees.
April
• Property Tax Delinquency – On April 1 all unpaid real estate and tangible personal property taxes become delinquent.
• Local Business Tax Prorate – April 1 through July 1, new businesses seeking to obtain a Local Business Tax receipt will be assessed only one-half the cost of an annual license.
• Property Tax Payment Installment Plan Application Due – On April 30 all applications for next year’s property tax payment installment plan are due.
May
• Tax Warrants – The Tax Collector’s Office begins processing tax warrants on delinquent tangible personal property taxes.
• Delinquent Property Taxes Advertised – Delinquent real estate and tangible personal property taxes are advertised in a local newspaper (delinquent real estate tax accounts are advertised 3 times and delinquent tangible personal property taxes are advertised 1 time).
• Tax Certificate Sale – A tax certificate sale is held on or before June 1 for unpaid real estate taxes.
June
• Property Tax Installment Payment Plan 1st Payment Due – In June, the first installment is due including a 6% discount for those who are on the Property Tax Installment Payment Plan.
• Tax Certificate Sale – Following required advertisements, a tax certificate sale for delinquent real estate property taxes will begin on or before June 1.
• Company Owned Vehicles – Registrations for company owned autos (vehicles) must be renewed in June.
July
• International Registration Plan – International Registration Plan (IRP) or apportioned autos (vehicles) which are commercial truck-tractors and trucks over 26,000 lbs that also travel outside Florida must file for registration renewal.
• Local Business Tax Renewals – Annual Renewals begin July 1.
August
• Truth In Millage (TRIM) Notices Sent Out – In August, the Property Appraiser’s Office mails out Truth In Millage (TRIM) notices to property owners notifying them of new assessed property values and proposed millage rates. This important notice provides taxpayers with information on how to address or challenge the assessed value of their property or address their concerns over millage rates to their various Taxing Authorities.
September
• Property Tax Installment Payment Plan – The second installment is due, including a 4.5% discount, for those who are on the Property Tax Installment Payment Plan.
• Local Business Tax Receipt Renewals Due – September 30 is the deadline for renewing all Local Business Tax receipts.
October
• Local Business Tax – October 1 through October 31, any Local Business Tax receipt that was not renewed on or by the end of the previous month and remains delinquent, is subject to a late renewal penalty of 10% plus applicable collection costs and attorney fees.
• Tax Bills Mailed – October 31 real estate and tangible personal property tax bills are mailed.
November
• Property Tax Collection Begins – Collection of real estate and tangible personal property taxes begins.
• Property Tax Installment Payment Plan – Early payment of real estate property taxes and/or tangible personal property taxes earns a 4% discount.
• Local Business Tax – November 1 through November 30, any Local Business Tax receipt that was not renewed on or by the previous September 30th and remains delinquent, is subject to a late renewal penalty of 15% plus applicable collection costs and attorney fees.
December
• Property Tax Installment Payment Plan – Third installment is due, including a 3% discount, for those on the Property Tax Installment Payment Plan.
• Early Payment of Property Taxes, 3% Discount – A 3% discount can be earned for early payment of real estate property taxes and/or tangible personal property taxes.
• Registration Renewals – Renewals due for ALL Truck Tractors, Semis, Over 5000 lbs & 9 Passenger Vehicles for Hire.
• Mobile Home Registration Renewals – Mobile home owners, who do not also own the property on which their mobile home is affixed, are required to renew their mobile home annual registration and decal before December 31.
• Local Business Tax – December 1 through December 31, any Local Business Tax receipt that was not renewed on or by the previous September 30th and remains delinquent, is subject to a late renewal penalty of 20% plus applicable collection costs and attorney fees.
